Personality: Described as a compassionate man, Qui-Gon also has his distant side, having a sharp tongue on occasion and sometimes appearing reserved. He has a rebellious streak and is willing to bend a few (or many) rules here and there and doesn't place much stock in the Unifying Force, instead following the Living Force: living in the moment, not following a vision of "destiny". As a man, Qui-Gon is courageous and has a strong sense of what he feels is justice, but can appear to be impulsive compared to other Jedi, as well as stubborn, believing he must "do as he must" instead of always following the Council's orders. While he had been the more conservative of the Master/Padawan team when Obi-Wan was young, by the time of the Naboo mission, the roles reversed. Qui-Gon was known as the more impulsive and Obi-Wan as the more cautious and conservative; Qui-Gon had a history of "adopting" seemingly lost causes, a fact Obi-Wan mentions with familiar exasperation on Tattooine, asking if he'd "picked up yet another pathetic life form".

He has a particular, quiet sense of humor and a dry sense of wit, depending on his mood. Occasionally he will use a joke here and there to ease tension or help drive home a lesson and make people more comfortable.

Powers: Qui-Gon is a Jedi Master. As a Jedi, he has been a student of the Force and so can do things that the average human can not: he can levitate objects, for example, and use the Force to mind-trick those with "weak minds". The Force can also be used to accelerate healing and speed up or slow down his body, aided as well with Temple training that gives Qui-Gon more control over his body than most humans with meditation. Qui-Gon has a form of telepathy (in that he can sometimes communicate with other Jedi by feeling them, but it's not so much in actual words) and psychokinesis. Qui-Gon's endurance is also enhanced.

Weaknesses: In Landels, however, his powers as a Jedi are limited. Using the Force to heal is extremely draining and he can't easily become one with the Force as he would when in combat (Qui-Gon would still be a skilled fighter, but not as effective as he would be if he had the Force and a lightsaber). Using the Force for extended amounts of time will continually drain Qui-Gon and could also aggravate his lightsaber wound. Qui-Gon is also attached to Obi-wan Kenobi, even if he has trouble admitted it to himself or his former Padawan, and so is more likely to react/possibly lose control if he is extremely worried about Obi-Wan.

He also has a compulsion to try to help other beings. While some might view this as a weakness, he does not.

Brief History: It's unknown which planet Qui-Gon hails from. His relationship with his own Master (Dooku) was one of strictly business, distant, and the two parted ways after he became a Knight, with Dooku warning him his weakness was a compassion for all living beings and that betrayal would come from a friend. Eventually he took on a young boy called Xanatos as his own apprentice. Doing so proved to be a mistake, as Xanatos was manipulative and arrogant and Qui-Gon unwilling to see his own Padawan's faults, taking too much pride in the boy. As part of his Trial to become a Jedi Knight, Xanatos was taken to his homeworld Telos and shown what wealth and power he could have had if he was not a Jedi. Xanatos betrayed Qui-Gon for this power and Qui-Gon was forced to fight him and kill Xanato's father. Xanatos began his spiral to the dark side, leaving Qui-Gon to try to overcome his betrayal and his own realization of his weakness and inability to prevent this.

Years passed and Qui-Gon had come by the Temple numerous times to look at hopeful Jedi initiates, all trying to vie for his attention. Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of them. But Qui-Gon refused to take on another Padawan and Obi-Wan was sent off to join the Agri-Corps on Bandomeer after being blamed for an attack on a fellow student. Qui-Gon ended up taking Obi-Wan as his Padawan, although not without some reservations. He'd just begun to accept Obi-Wan as his Padawan when Obi-Wan, too, seemed to betray him by turning his back on the Jedi Order, quitting the Jedi to help win a war fought on Melidan/Daan. The two were reunited when Xanatos tried to invade the Jedi Temple; things were awkward between them, but Qui-Gon realized his trust issues were his own and had forgiven Obi-Wan awhile ago, even if he hadn't known how to voice this at first. Their reconcilation was another step in the road to understanding each other.

There were many missions over the years, Qui-Gon passing on his knowledge to Obi-Wan as well as learning from his Padawan. Qui-Gon fell in love with a fellow Jedi Knight called Tahl. But Tahl was kidnapped and killed, dying in his arms. Qui-Gon walked a fine line with the Dark Side then, going so far as to almost kill the man responsible in his rage. After that, Qui-Gon knew he would never have that kind of attachment again, feeling it was too dangerous.

Flash forward a few more years forward and Qui-Gon was sent on a mission with a now adult Obi-Wan to a planet called Naboo. On the way to this mission, Qui-Gon had discussion with Obi-Wan, telling him his flaw was caring too much what Qui-Gon thought. Naboo was under a blockade by the Trade Federation. Ambushed by the Trade Federation once arriving in their ship, the two Jedi snuck onto the planet and, with the help of Gungan called Jar Jar, rescued the Naboo Queen Amidala and managed to take her to Coruscant, where they met a young boy called Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon sensed such great potential in him that he insisted he was the "Chosen One" of Jedi lore, and, when they took him to Coruscant, insisted he could train him (despite already having a Padawan). Obi-Wan didn't approve, but instead backed up his Master before the Jedi Council, saying he was ready for the Trials.

The Queen returned to Naboo, the two Jedi and Anakin in tow. In the process of taking back the city of Theed, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were faced with a Sith that he'd encountered right before leaving Tatooine. They fought him together and Qui-Gon was struck down, impaled on Darth Maul's lightsaber. Obi-Wan killed Darth Maul and rushed to his dying Master's side. His last words to Obi-Wan were ones of duty and the mission, asking Obi-Wan to promise him that he would teach Anakin Skywalker. He died in Obi-Wan's arms.

In Landels - Qui-Gon woke up in Landels believing it to be a genuine, if not a surprisingly primitive, medical facility. His theory at the time was that the Jedi Council had recovered him from the Naboo reactor after being stabbed by Darth Maul's lightsaber and rushed to an unknown location for treatment. This was helped along by the fact that the first night shift or so, Qui-Gon had slept through them, still recovering from a mostly-healed lightsaber wound. It wasn't until he met Obi-Wan that he was told the truth and faced with the fact his injury really had been as fatal as it should have be.

Over the course of a few days, Qui-Gon witnessed what Landels really was and saw the man behind the Institute. Seeing him as a threat to the Force and the greater galaxy, Qui-Gon decided it was his duty to stay behind and get to the bottom of this as his final mission.
